Often times we wander, feel misplaced, life gets chaotic, and even our own ideas overwhelm us. Trust me, I know. I usually write, therefore, with the intent of reaching readers who lack support with their dreams and more that have not quite figured out exactly what they want to do in life – yet. My aim as such has always been to give a voice to the voiceless, and to share experiences/testimonies that can encourage someone else to fulfill purpose. However, what I’ve come to realize is most of us aren’t infinitely lost. In fact, we already know what we want. The reality is, we’re just too lazy to go after it. Yup, that’s the reality. Correction: That’s your reality. Though this may not be the popular opinion, it is my hope that you’d allow me to share it with you anyway. Today’s blog post is entitled You Already Know.

You see, I’ve come to believe that most of us know exactly what we’re supposed to be doing. Deep down inside, it’s never been a secret. Unfortunately, a lot of people just don’t go after it. Why? Because we’re either too lazy, too scared or too negative to go in pursuit.

Where do you fall?

Now, if you’re thinking that these options are too harsh and you can’t relate, then I urge you to think again. And know this while you’re at it: This is a judgment free zone!  The only person you have to answer to here is yourself. What I’d really like for you to do is be shamelessly honest with yourself and open-minded while we come to terms with the real reasons why even YOU have not been living the life you know you were born to live.

If you’re thinking, “Kay I have a dream but I just don’t know how to get started” – Then open door number 1 – LAZY! You see information is always available. Knowledge is not a respecter of age, sex or religion. We all have the ability to pick ourselves up and start seeking answers. Whether it’s as simple as googling “How to become a lawyer” or “Tips on opening your own business”, it’s all there. You’d be amazed at how much you can learn by simply reading a book or even asking someone (in the field) a question. And you don’t even always have to know someone. You can, however, reach out to others and ask for advice, seek mentorship and begin by serving into becoming your own leader one day. [P.s. Great leaders were born out of being great servers.] Another thing is networking. Yes Networking – something that has taken me a really long while to put into action, because I’m (the least social) people’s person you’ll ever meet – is a great idea too. No matter the field of interest, there are like-minded people all around you. You just have to be willing to look out for them.

But maybe this does not sound like you because you’ve already gained the knowledge. In fact, you were born with a particular skill set and talent to fulfill your dream. You  know you already have what it takes to be the best pastry chef in the land; makeup artist, singer, athlete or you already have all the academic qualifications to show that you’re the best man for that accounting position or to be promoted to that engineering role at a  new company. But, guess what, you’re still failing to take that step out in faith to achieve it. Then my friend you’re heading toward door number 2 – SCARED!

You have innate gifts and natural skill, yet there’s something holding you back. Why are you so afraid to receive what God already has for you? Why are you limiting yourself? This is what being afraid looks like. But don’t worry, I have been here before. And in order to get past it, I have had to repeatedly tell myself – until I believed it –

“I am no longer a slave to fear.”

“I am a child of God.”

“My gifts will make room for me.”

“I just need to go after them.”

Affirmations help me. Putting it into action makes the dream a reality. Today I urge you to do the same. And always remember….

And lastly, if you’ve read both these options but have still failed to relate to any, then door number 3 is certainly calling you. – NEGATIVE!

Now this one may be a hard pill to swallow. No one likes to hear that they’re being negative. However, more often than none, the reason why we can’t get ahead is because we’re either surrounding ourselves with negative energy (people) or our own doubtful thoughts are what are invisibly negative.

Think of it like this… when you think you can never go beyond where you are right now, you’re being negative. And if you think that you can not overcome whatever storm (no matter the size) you’re currently facing, then you’re being negative too. But, you’re also right. You’re never going to overcome it. You know why? Because we are what we think.

The thing we got to realize is, if we never think beyond who we are, we will never go beyond where we are.

And what the enemy wants to do – because he knows of the maximum potential that God has placed on the inside of each of us – is keep our thinking limited and stagnated. He wants us to remain negative, scared and lazy.

If today you’re guilty of dreaming small dreams, doubting your big ones or surrounding yourself with persons who can’t uplift you then this is what will infinitely keep you from being all that you were born to be. But guess what, I think you already knew this.

I think you know that the people you’re around aren’t good for your dreams, but you’ve known them for so long (friends and family alike) you feel bad to let them go. Know this: you can not hold on to your dreams and the people that’s keeping your stagnant at the same time.

If today you’re looking for a sign then here it is…

If you’re wondering whether or not you should end your current relationship because you aren’t happy and deep down you know that you’re settling, my advice would be…

If you’re still harboring that dream job of becoming an entrepreneur while overworking yourself to fulfill another man’s dream, and praying for a sign to help you decide whether you should resign now and open that business, then I don’t even have to say anything else…

To add to the unpopular opinion, I’ll end by saying that if your excuse for not going after your heart’s desire – whether it’s starting something new, or leaving something, someone or somewhere familiar behind – is because you’re trying to make sure you have something to fall back on first, then you’re already setting yourself up for failure.

You see if you go in with the mindset that there is a possibility that you’re going to have to fall back on something, then you’re believing that your dreams won’t work out. And whatever you put out there, is what you will receive.

I said all of this today to say, listen to that inner voice. That little voice – often ignored – that already knows what’s up!!!! Opinions are great, some advice are truly life savers, but deep down we both know: YOU already have what it takes.

Go after it!

You were born with a calling unique to you. It doesn’t matter how saturated you may think your industry of interest is, do not let that stop you from pursuing your goals.

You’re not doing yourself a favor by procrastinating either. Procrastination is a grave of which a lot of dreams are buried. (And chileeeee I’ll need a whole other blog to talk about procrastination). But for now I’ll just remind you that it’s certainly not helping you get ahead.

Aditionally, it also doesn’t matter if you think you’re not qualified enough, or if you can’t afford it right now… take that first step toward your goal by being intentional. Don’t be afraid to start over. Don’t be afraid to take that leap of faith, fall down and get back up again.

You may have started reading this blog thinking that this is not you. But at some point we have all fallen victim to one of those three doors. The good news is, God can open new doors today, you just have to seek Him. And as you do, never doubt that you are great; you already have what it takes and…
